Erectile dysfunction (
ED) is the repeated inability to get or keep an erection firm enough for sexual intercourse. If you have ED, your healthcare provider may recommend an oral medication called Cialis
® (
tadalafil). This drug has been shown to be effective for the following:
- Achieving and maintaining an erection during sexual activity
- Having a harder erection during sexual activity
- Experiencing greater frequency of orgasms
- Having increased satisfaction with, and enjoyment of, intercourse.
Cialis works by blocking a chemical that reverses an erection by allowing blood to flow out of the penis. Because of this effect, Cialis causes more blood to remain in the penis, which means an improved erection.
This medication comes in tablet form and is taken as needed, usually one hour before sexual activity. In some cases, it can also be taken on a daily basis.
