Does L-Arginine Work? (Cont.)

Does L-Arginine Work for Intermittent Claudication?
Early research shows that L-arginine may improve intermittent claudication (leg pain associated with peripheral artery disease) when taken by mouth or intravenously (by IV). However, more research is needed to confirm these findings.

Does L-Arginine Work for Preeclampsia?
One study showed that L-arginine did not work for treating preeclampsia, a pregnancy-related condition that causes high blood pressure and other problems. In this study, L-arginine did not help to lower blood pressure in women with preeclampsia.

Does L-Arginine Work for Migraines?
One study showed that combining ibuprofen with L-arginine helped to treat migraine headaches. However, it is not clear how important L-arginine was, since ibuprofen alone can be effective for treating migraines. There is not enough evidence available to know for sure if L-arginine works to treat migraines.

Final Thoughts on L-Arginine Effectiveness

L-arginine may be effective for several uses, although more research is necessary. Because L-arginine supplements can interact with some medications and may not be safe for everyone, it is a good idea to check with your healthcare provider before taking L-arginine.
