Does Generic Levitra Work?

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved brand-name Levitra® (vardenafil HCl) for treating erectile dysfunction. Although the brand-name medication is the only form of the drug available, some people believe a generic version can be bought online. However, a patent currently prevents any generic versions of Levitra from being made until 2018.

If you search the Internet for "generic Levitra," you may find a number of companies claiming to sell it. If you buy such medications from an overseas or other online pharmacy, you put yourself at risk of taking a drug that could be fake, substandard, and potentially dangerous.

This can leave you with valid questions, such as:

  • Does my generic Levitra work?
  • Is it safe?
  • How do I know I'm getting the right medication?

Because the "generic Levitra" sold online is not approved by the FDA, it has not been tested for safety or effectiveness. Until an approved version becomes available, you should talk to your healthcare provider about your options for erectile dysfunction treatment.
