Levitra Alternatives

Surgery as a Levitra Alternative
For some men, surgery may be a good option. Vascular surgery can help repair damaged blood vessels, which may help with impotence. Also, surgery can be performed to implant devices that can help a man achieve an erection. Usually, surgery is considered only after other treatments have been unsuccessful.
Prescription Medications as Substitutes for Levitra
Fortunately, there are several different prescription medication alternatives to Levitra. Currently, there are a few different Levitra-like medications available. Each has its own particular advantages and disadvantages, and sometimes one medication will work better than others for an individual. These Levitra-like medications (known as phosphodiesterase inhibitors) include:

Cialis is a longer-acting medication, compared to Levitra or Viagra.
None of these medications should be taken with nitrates (medications for chest pain). For some people, these Levitra-like medications are not effective enough, and some people may not be able to take these medications due to side effects or drug interactions.
Another option in such situations is injectable or pellet medications. These medications include:
  • Alprostadil injection (Caverject®, Edex®)
  • Alprostadil urethral suppositories (Muse®)
  • Papaverine hydrochloride injection
  • Phentolamine injection.
Papaverine, phentolamine, Caverject, and Edex are injected directly into the penis, while Muse is a urethral suppository (a small pellet that is inserted into the urinary opening of the penis). These treatments can be very effective, but are more difficult to take than the oral Levitra-like medications.
Lastly, some men with testosterone deficiencies and impotence may benefit from taking testosterone, which comes in many forms, including injections, gels, and skin patches.
