Erectile Dysfunction Home > Damiana Side Effects

While there are currently no known side effects of damiana, this does not mean that negative reactions aren't possible. Not enough research has been done on the herbal supplement to determine if side effects exist or how dangerous they may be. If you experience anything that you think may be related to damiana, contact your healthcare provider right away.

Does Damiana Cause Side Effects?

Damiana is an herbal remedy often used to treat a variety of conditions. It is also used recreationally for a mild "high" (whether smoked or used in alcoholic beverages). At this time, there are no reported damiana side effects.
However, this does not guarantee that damiana does not cause side effects; it simply means that no problems have been reported, either in clinical studies or in case reports. Case reports are individual reports from healthcare providers about side effects seen in their patients.
There has been one report of seizure-like problems after ingestion of an extremely large dose of damiana (200 g, equivalent to 200,000 mg). It is not known if such problems could occur with lower dosages as well.
Make sure to tell your healthcare provider if you develop any side effects that you think may be related to damiana. Your healthcare provider will likely be interested in such possible reactions, and may even want to report such damiana side effects, especially if they are particularly serious or interesting.
You should also let your healthcare provider know if you develop something that "just does not seem right" while taking damiana. While it may not be related to the supplement, your healthcare provider will be able to diagnose and treat the problem.
