Maca and Breastfeeding
Because no studies have been conducted on maca and breastfeeding, it is not known whether the supplement is safe for women who are breastfeeding. Maca is derived from a vegetable, but this does not mean that a dietary supplement derived from maca is safe. Sometimes, supplements contain contaminants or ingredients in high doses that may not be safe for breastfeeding women and their infants.

Often, dietary supplements provide substances at much higher doses, compared to a normal intake through food. Sometimes, the preparation process or other factors introduce contaminants or somehow change the components in ways that make the supplement unsafe for women who are breastfeeding and their infants. It simply cannot be assumed that a dietary supplement derived from a vegetable source is safe.
