Panax Ginseng Side Effects

Decreased appetite, insomnia, and breast pain are some of the bothersome Panax ginseng side effects that have been reported. These side effects are generally minor, but some may require immediate medical attention. Potentially serious side effects of Panax ginseng that should be reported to a healthcare provider include a rapid heart rate, low or high blood pressure, and significant menstrual changes.

Does Panax Ginseng Cause Side Effects?

As with any medication or supplement, side effects are possible with Panax ginseng. Although some people assume that natural products such as Panax ginseng are automatically free of side effects, this is simply not the case. For example, many poisons and toxins are natural products. Panax ginseng can cause side effects, some of which can be quite serious (even life-threatening).
 
This article specifically refers to Panax ginseng (also known as Asian ginseng, Chinese ginseng, and Korean ginseng). This type of ginseng should not be confused with American ginseng or Siberian ginseng, which are entirely different herbs.
 

Bothersome Panax Ginseng Side Effects

Possibly bothersome (although usually not serious) Panax ginseng side effects may include:
 
  • Insomnia
  • Headaches
  • Upset stomach
  • Breast pain
  • Decreased appetite
  • Diarrhea
  • A spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Unexplained happy or pleasant feelings (euphoria).
