Does Viagra Work in Men With Spinal Cord Injuries?

One study has looked at Viagra's effects in men with spinal cord injuries that have caused erectile dysfunction. In this study, men took up to 100 mg of the drug. Similar to the results of other studies, in men with spinal cord injury, 83 percent reported improved erections and 59 percent of intercourse attempts were successful.

Effects of Viagra Based on Other Factors

Information from this research has also shown Viagra to be effective, regardless of the severity of erectile dysfunction, the cause, other medical conditions, or race. Specific medical conditions included:

Coronary artery disease (known more commonly as heart disease)
High blood pressure
Peripheral vascular disease
Diabetes
Depression.

The effects of Viagra were experienced by men who had undergone:

Open heart surgery (coronary artery bypass surgery)
Radical prostatectomy
Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP).

It was also effective in those taking blood pressure medicines, diuretics, antidepressants, or antipsychotics.
