Viagra Effectiveness

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is the repeated inability to get or keep an erection firm enough for sexual intercourse. If you have ED, your healthcare provider may recommend Viagra® (sildenafil citrate). But how effective is Viagra?

Clinical studies have shown that up to 88 percent of men had an improvement in their erections when taking Viagra. This prescription medication was also shown to be effective in men with certain medical conditions and after various types of surgeries.

Viagra works by blocking a chemical that reverses an erection by allowing blood to flow out of the penis. Because of this effect, Viagra causes more blood to remain in the penis, which means an improved erection.

This medication comes in tablet form and is taken as needed, usually one hour before sexual activity. However, do not take this drug more than once a day.
