What Does Viagra Do?

Viagra® (sildenafil citrate) is a medication prescribed for treating erectile dysfunction (ED). But what exactly does Viagra do to treat this problem?
 
This medication has been shown to be a very effective treatment for erectile dysfunction. It works by blocking a chemical that reverses an erection by allowing blood to flow out of the penis. Because of this effect, Viagra causes more blood to remain in the penis, which means an improved erection.
